1. Introduction

Carelysis ("we," "our," or "us"), operated by Carelysis Health Tech, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your data when you use the Carelysis mobile application (the "App") and our website.

By using Carelysis, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. We process your data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and the EU AI Act.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly to us, as well as information collected automatically:

  • Personal Data: Name, email address, and account credentials.
  • Sensitive Health Data: Age, gender, height, weight, activity level, dietary preferences, and nutrition logs. We process this data only with your explicit consent.
  • Visual Data: Photos of food you upload for AI analysis.
  • Technical Data: Device ID, model, operating system, and IP address.

3. Device Permissions

To provide its core functionality, the Carelysis App requires certain permissions on your device. These include:

  • Camera: Used to take photos of your meals for AI identification and nutritional analysis. We only access the camera when you explicitly use the photo capture feature within the App.
  • Photo Library: Used to allow you to select and upload existing food photos from your device for analysis.
  • Location: Used during food identification to help our AI better recognize regional food items and ingredients based on your general vicinity.

4. AI Processing & Google Gemini

Carelysis uses **Google Gemini AI** to analyze food photos and provide nutritional insights.

  • Purpose: To identify food items and estimate nutritional values (calories, macros).
  • Data Handling: Food photos are sent to Google Gemini for processing. According to our integration, these photos are processed for analysis and are not used by Carelysis or our AI partners to train public models without your explicit opt-in.
  • Human Oversight: In accordance with the EU AI Act, AI outputs are for informational purposes only and should not be treated as medical advice.

5. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

  • Provide personalized nutrition scores and progress tracking.
  • Operate family sharing and leaderboard features.
  • Improve our AI models through anonymized data (where permitted).
  • Respond to support requests and maintain security.

6. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with service providers necessary for operation:

  • Supabase / Firebase: For secure database hosting, cloud functions, and authentication.
  • Google Cloud: For AI processing services.

7. Your Rights & Account Deletion

Depending on your location, you have the following rights:

  • Right to Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate information.
  • Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"):

    You have the right to request the permanent deletion of your account and all associated data. You can exercise this right by:

  • Right to Data Portability: Export your data in a structured JSON format (available in Settings).
  • California Rights: Right to know what data is collected, right to delete, and right to non-discrimination.

8. Data Security & Retention

We implement industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit and at rest. We retain your health data only as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, your personal and health data is permanently removed from our active databases.

9. Children's Privacy

Carelysis is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under this age.
